A Monster of a Phone – Maemoproject.com

It appears that yesterday was the release of the final video of the maemoproject!?!

For those of you don’t know what or how the maemoproject come around here is a recap of the events that lead up to yesterday.

Around the 20th October numerous bloggers received a cryptic message from WOMworld which had the following image in it:

Major-compete-note

It was worked out that this was actually a clue to the following website MajorCompete.

Untitled

Which as you would expect from Nokia, included yet another cryptic clue.  If you fill in the blanks on the post-it, you get the words Maemo Project which is how the site was first stumbled upon.

At the time, there was a looped video of a blank room which ran for 10mins. At the 9min mark appeared a penguin for just 1 second. If you are one of the lucky people to have clicked on the penguin in time, you would have been given the chance to enter a draw for a new N900 or a Nokia BH-905 headset. The winners of which will be announced at the end of this week.

Time pasted and people waited, then from out of the darkness came WOMWorld once again. On 2nd November video snippets started to be delivered to various bloggers around the internet.

Here is list of all the videos that were released including the time intervals, the blogger and the number the video was given.

  1. Zomgitscj - Video 1 (00:00:00:00 – 00:00:00:00)
  2. Reggie(Maemo.org) – Video 2 (7:46:44:21 –  7:46:52:16)
  3. MeamoCentral - Video 5 (10:14:46:00 – 10:14:54:0)
  4. Maemo-FreakVideo 6 (10:14:58:00 – 10:15:06:20)
  5. The Nokia ReviewVideo 8 (10:15:31:22 – 10:15:36:17)
  6. Reggie(Maemo.org) – Video 9 (10:15:40:04 – 10:15:45:24)

In no time a tie was made to the video that Mark released on his Nokia Blog youtube site sometime before, which was taken at the Maemo Summit – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCV_F1zm05w.

We all started to get very excited and our minds started to work over time. Most of the talk and thinking was done on the following thread over at maemo.org : http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=33155

We started searching each video for clues to what might come next. One of the areas we started looking at was the word Värtsäri, which is found at the bottom of every video. Värtsäri is in fact a natural wilderness park in Northern Finland. My natural instinct told me to search ovi maps, nokia maps, google maps, and any other map I could find on the internet for more clues. Sadly this lead to nothing :-(

Then yesterady around lunch time I got a direct twitter message from @Miss_CakeHead with the following link to her site: http://cakeheadlovesevil.wordpress.com/2009/10/20/nokia-maemo-project/ stating that the final maemo project video had been released.

This was a great video, which sparked a mass surge of blog posts, twitter re-tweets and of for some QUESTIONS…

Its this the end or is this the beginning? Is there more to come from the Maemoproject.com? Should we be looking for more clues? Is there more to be won?

Or was this simply a case of clever advertising, in the wake of the soon to be release Nokia N900
