N900 – PR1.2 OTA Update Problems

It  seems that a few people have been having problems updating their N900′s to the Firmware version PR1.2.

If when doing the update OTA you end up with a screen saying the following:

Then this is what you need to do:
  1. Connect your N900 to your PC via usb, selecting the “PC Suite” option.
  2. Open up NSU and continue to search for an update of the firmware.
  3. NSU will either give you the option to update to PR1.2 or it will tell you there are no updates ready for your phone.
  4. What you need to do is continue by re-installing the same firmware you currently have(the older one PR1.1)
  5. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR DEVICE
  6. Once the update is complete, disconnect your N900 from your PC.
  7. Try again to update OTA on your Phone and when you reach the stage you got stuck at the last time you should see the below image.

The problem seems to be because the OTA system thinks that your phone is not ready to be updated to PR1.2 because of it’s current firmware.
Strange I know!!
Just wanted to make an update here thanks to @thefalken from rachaelandtom.info it actually seems that the reason people are getting this problem is because of not having  (~55meg) free space on rootfs.

I hope this helps anyone who is having problems. If not please let me know and I’ll see what I can do to help.
Enjoy PR1.2 I know I am :-)

OTA didn’t work for me so I opened NSU. I shows 10.2010.19.1 as the update version and 3.2010.02.8 as the current version. When I continue to update, the download process begins. However, the download freezes at 33,6MB and I get an error message.

I tried with another PC, but the same thing happened.

Could there be a problem with Nokia servers (error message gives that as one of the causes), or is there something wrong with my N900?

Please help! :)

I have EXACTLY the same situation here as Kurtsilla: NSU, shows 10.2010.19.1, freezes and that’s it. tried 3 times but always the same. Also I cannot download the ovi repositories so I hoped a lot from this update. Too frustrating. I’m going to sell this phone; hanen’t even finished paying it…and get a nokia on symbian

hi,

it said i couldn’t install OTA until i uninstalled gltron and tuxrace (as found on another forum) then OTA worked fine me with no problems.

Same problem as above all are facing
It stops downloading on 33.6 mb and shows an error message Downloading Failed. I have tried it more than 100 times and from many different systems but the same message
Its frustrating as Nokia Softwares developers should only launch a update when they r sure that it will work properly
As these days customer has many options on smart phone, but we stick to nokia only because of softwares like pc suite and ovi suite
N900 also doesn’t support simple functions like say caller name, Advance call manager, speed dialing

Actually, for me, the message meant I didn’t have enough (~55meg) free space on rootfs.
Uninstalling some applications allowed me to continue.
I suspect the reflash you do has much the same effect but is far more intrusive. Why the installer can’t just tell you the real reason I dunno.

I checked the amount of free space on rootfs, and realized that there was not enough space (compared to recommendations i’ve seen in several forums). So I had to uninstall some apps (as Tom did), and voila; after that OTA update started with no problems at all!

In OTA i am not receiving continue option with back up
What is rootfs
In NSU it showing download process failed after 33.6mb

What to do
Kindly suggest

Thanks for the advice, seems like the download is still screwed up though.

If the download fails, maybe you can try over wireless ?

It looks like there might be a problem with the NSU download files. Are people still having problems here?
